decisions

I remember like 4,5 years ago i applied to go NTU business after A's came out.... i didn't put second choice...1 whole list of places to put, i put only one....and got in

i felt a bit lost...as i didn't have econs background....and i was afraid it would cost me. But i was in the army then and i thought "what the heck, leave it there first, have 2 years to think about it"

so one day when i was at the level3 I/C table...i thought to myself...perhaps i should pursue my interest...mathematics?
so off i went...applied for NUS maths
ONG said i was an idiot
my brother rolled his eye on me...he had told me previously that the engineers in nus are darn zai in math, so that's an indication of his math standard ah

ah....if i stick to the commoner's choice...i'm just 1 week from graduation
the choices...engine, business...the choices that seem so normal coming out from JC

i was afraid that no econs background will give me disadvantage in biz...haha come here face the PRC army isn't that worse....

new VS old

Ah i wonder why people in the past can create so much work, but advancement now is so slow

My prof say people in the past didn't have much to do...no PS2, no PSP...so when they are free they just try solving equations
they didn't have internet, they didn't have 24/7 cities.
They don't think of solving the equations only from 8-5

$$$

How long can i live in the denial that money isn't everything, money isn't the most important thing in life?

when am i going to start using my brains to start grabbing money?

In our society( a consumerist one) we tend to think that
knowing how to make money= being smart

yet say...if there's a beggar on the street who knows how to solve P vs NP, most people will still say he's a loser.
Yet if there's a bugger who makes millions a month from doing MLM, but don't even know simple algebra or arithmetic, we will call him a genius.
Why?

Because of the way our big brother has shape us, sending us into schools that's equivalent to production lines....

desperation

This part of my life

this small but seemingly never ending part?

is call

Desperation

eureka

I'm sure everyone would have some eureka moments in their lives

And i wish to type down one that has been appearing in my head recently
, it really isn't one technically but it was for me then

primary 4....at 10am...the teacher just finish teaching "average"
she didn't teach anything regarding its meaning...just the formula of "summing everything up and divide by the number of entitles that you sum up with"

so after recess when we have to form 2 rows and walk back to the class room, i was thinking about this "average" issue...it really bothered me since i realized that it was used in seemingly different ways by my English and Maths teacher
then i realized suddenly...average is like finding the center point? so if you score 100 in test 1 and 90 in test 2, their center line is 95, which is their average...? so with that thought in mind upon reaching my desk i trial and error with all sorts of numbers and it all proved my "hypothesis"

ha ha childish and idiotic i know but that eureka gave me a temporary happiness

sacrifice

Was reading a friend's blog...shall not disclose his name today....

"I was thinking about Jim's advice. And actually a lot of other people's advice. To do what your heart tells you. I don't really want to get all my As. Or get into business. It was a cold calculated decision. Easier to get first class. Easier to earn more money. Why get As if I can't get any awards and scholarships for it? Pointless. learn for the sake of studying? Don't make me laugh.

I secretly detest friends when they stay in hall and flunk like retards. Wasting their parents money simply because they can. I wanted to stay in hall too. Or join those student activities. What? Studying is fun? Kiss my ass. That's why I told Y. Aiya. Life's like that. No time to keep worrying about it. Point is one thing.

Money. Say it with me. Money. There are people who are lucky enough to do what they want. Then there are us who do what needs to be done. Too bad. Someone gave up her chance of a happier life for me. Now I do what I can to make her as comfortable as possible for her last lap of life.

Maybe along the way I'll find something to be happy about. If there's something I learnt, raising kids is a fucking pain in the ass. A chain to pull you into the depths of hell when nothing goes right. And if you choose to break that chain you get a chance to send your flesh and blood into hell instead."

haizzz i feel i have let my parents down

science of music

alrite so both test results for SOM are out and i score full for both
I.E 50% of the module is secured and just pray that the essay and music piece doesn't screw me up

need to thank QZ and GM
GM for recommendation of this wonderful module, at least i learn that math is ever present in music and Pythagoras was a musician too

i remembered that during the quiz 2 of my computational finance module some buggers forgot to bring their calculators and i was think "what the fuck man"
but however during my SOM quiz2 the next day, i actually forgot to bring mine too...hah must be freaking karma

but lucky i'm still quite good and relatively fast at arithmetic and thus was able to finish the paper with slight ease
i remembered finishing the paper twice and the girl beside me was still punching her calculator furiously... since we weren't allowed to leave the venue and it was an open book test i actually took out my TODAY to read

haiz how i wish i can have the same experience with my math papers, not the forgetting calculator part of course

p.s: i need make a mention that not all math mods require calculators, this semester i have 3 math exams, none really requires it. At least one i confirm don't need.
those people that you are think cannot live without their calculators? Those are the engineers that you are talking about

big

Think of the biggest number you can think of....

quadrillion?
that's 10^15...which is 1 followed by 15 zeros

now say 10^80...that's the estimated number of photons in the universe

and
(10^230, 10^1000)?
that's the estimated number of encrypting keys in the internet
i know that's quite a fuck up estimate interval but I'm sure we all have learn to live with fuck up things
now the keys are made up of prime numbers, which are the basic building blocks of math
primes which occur in a seemingly random manner on the number line

some math

Taking a break from revision so i thought i clear some math thoughts here to save some space....

you know those ancient middle east...scientists/mathematicians/religious people...

I'm not a religious person so even though I'm respectful, I'm not really concerned with the differences between Jews, Christians, Muslims, bible or the Koran.

The ancient Jews believed that god speaks to us through numbers, and they had indeed created their language with a hidden numeric code
Obviously i can't write their language here so i give all the American translation

taking their language...if you decode their alphabet letter by letter and through some decoding techniques....
you get

Father---> 3
Mother--> 41

Child--> 44, which is Mother+ Father

Garden of Eden--> 144
Tree of knowledge in the garden --> 233
Take their quotient---> 1.618...which is that?
Golden Ratio

The Fibonacci's sequence...1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21.....
if you take the ratio (Xn+1)/(Xn),
and let n approach infinity
you get?

Golden ratio

Everything in this world can be represented by numbers. If you can grasp any system, you can represent them with numbers. See through them, you see patterns...and that include the stock market, grades system

Certainly i don't believe in Christianity but i do believe in god and this abstract holy entity governs all these questions that mathematicians have been trying to solve ever since mathematicians existed.

over-train

nowadays when people don't come for training, they give lousy reasons like sick, over train, injured

now...edward is sick...for the second time in 3 weeks...and its claimed that its because he trains even before he fully recovers...
chey what a cui body constitution, as if i havent been through such things before...last time year1 i sick go training still gena fucked by that idiotic Mtoo for being too weak?
over train? i havent even seen him training hard before lah,
to think he's a regular, i'm actually paying taxes to feed such rubbish to defend my homeland?

and darren...strained his shoulder? from what? from the fitness test eddy gave on thursday?
fucl lah give better excuse can or not? so easily strained that all the muscles seriously for show one meh? want to study and skip training just say lah, want to go clubbing and skip training just say lah
if you can strain your shoulder so easily then you should seriously be the waterboy of the team
can't even go through a fitness test properly but can row june race? what a joke
and it's even funnier that my captain and vice-captain believe such nonsense
i had always thought that people from the toilet paper degree faculty are good at coming up with excuses...didnt know that it contains such a loser

this is a sport for tough men, not mama boys, pretty boys wanna be, sissy boys
it requires discipline, commitment, maturity

slut

So there's this girl that pissing me off, totally

--> she's good at acting
--> she's petty
--> she's wasting tax money in pursuing a piece of toilet paper

she's good at acting to gain self pity?
she somehow managed to go into year 4 when her CAP is nowhere?
i need make a mention that in fass the min criteria is 3.2....in science its 3.5....some QC just in case
in case of what? sluts of course

well....recently there's this nus sex survey...and there's was a public outcry...and Jamie yeo wrote an article title" nothing is going to stop them , seriously"
in it she mentioned how she knows a few nus girls...some stay hall some don't....those stay hall bring guys not even in nus...to do it...
some not in hall....actually did it with professors to pass or get a good grade?

Perhaps perhaps perhaps

child

ok if in the future my child says he/she wants to study in a specific faculty in nus....

I'M gg to freaking slap him/her till he/she wakes up his/her idea

question to ponder upon...even among the students we are looking down on them, i wonder if the the professors do it too?

p.s: the saint who use correction pen and wrote the holy words at the engine toilet....if i have a chance to meet him i will bow to him man....
maybe i met him before already...

nteam trial

Alright so apparently my captain wants to go for NTEAM selection trail
he claims its his personal dream and can't "sacrifice"

such brainless thoughts

who doesn't and haven't make sacrifices for the team?

and he did once implicitly told the team...don't go for the trial, well his actual words were..."i won't stop you, but don't let nteam training conflict with nus's"
" is the PM cup more important or a seat on NTEAM more important"

like fuck lah...obviously it will clash right?
even if won't clash, say you get selected...the moment you spend 1% effort thinking about Nteam you are compromising already isn't it?

captain...leaving the team one side and going for his personal dreams?
can you imagine a father leaving his family one side and pursuing his own dreams?
LFLS

P.S: my captain once won rookie of the year and team player of the year award....conclusion?

either you can win those awards by being an actor instead of being an athlete
or NUS is brainless in giving out awards, just like how they give toilet paper as degrees to some faculties

p.s.s: in this area i'm an absolute bijective function with my coach in terms of thoughs
" if you are good, people will approach you"
good at paddling, not at acting that is

family

so my a friend of my got accepted by SIA to be an air-stewardess

but she rejected it

why?

cause ever since she went for the interview her dad stopped talking to her,
and she values family more than anything else

how touching...
read out for my next post

tibet

Hai recently i had a dinner disagreement with my parents on the tibet issue

i feel that china can't even get such politics done...so why are they even hosting the games?

my father said...well apparently the ang mohs are only "helping" tibet cause weakening is the goal...like good old Russia
my mum said...Lamas are evil...can't be trusted...they have been planning such a evil plot long ago....

well my dad was born in china and is a china fan, my mum's "lama theory" comes from TV shows...shows produced by china stations

Read from ONG' s blog about how information is hidden and only selected stuff are reported in the media...like how why people didn't called for boycott of Atlanta and Sidney games under similar circumstances then
Well...what i feel is...the lama's aren't wrong...just that those people with white skin are...haiz

trash

Well currently i have lots of thoughts in my head and i better clear them here so i can have some space for studying...

Recently it's discovered that two guys who have left the DB team are still borrowing the fish tank gym key to train under our NUSDB name...for the past 3,4,5 months?
fuck them
such lousy ethics can only be trained through lousy family and schools and army units

i know long ago that YNCJ (read this in the language of negation) is a rubbish school, so these 2 idiots prove that rubbish school produce trash, not students

lesson of the day? send your children to international school, to be safe.

Reaped this off ong j y's post....again

"everyone needs a hero. Some role model to emulate and strive towards"

i guess mine is Charles Eppes?

Now...with two weeks to exams...i have thought of a few alternatives to survive this round

1) pia lecture notes and tutorials till no day no night
2) go and master the chinese martial arts "xi xing da fa", fly to ULCA, apply it on Prof Terrence Tao and fly back for exams

hm...i guess (1) seems easier

well on a side note, my prof introduced this #1 journal in mathematics....
the title is "Anals of Mathematics"

oops sorry its "Annals of Mathematics"

about the SCR team

oops forgot to mention the SCR team on my previous previous post....

well they are just a team of 8 members...including my ex platoon mate VICTOR CHAN MAN HOE!!!

so over dinner just now...i was telling him...so technically speaking the SCR's strength is just 7.5 isn't it?
or its 6? since 1 guy has to be send to look for him "teying" somewhere....

Haha some lame crap shit oldie jokes...what fond memories....

and chan made mention of Sgt Sing, the man with twice the effort and half the results and his air-con story again....he still likes to bring that up after like...3,4 years?

"aiya the guard rest is a place meant for resting!! do till like this, when got guests come how to let them see?"
" you don't need to tell me i also know who did this!!"

Hope they are all doing well and i hope those who deserve their retributions are living it now....
wan, teo, ah peh, chandran, poon, hafix, sim, heng(mdm), chan (security), garnesh, the 2 young bravo sgts whom i dun even bother their names...1 teddy bear and 1 dino i remember

and not forgetting...liow...
may your son have no asshole dude

captain shinji

"i hate people who just say it but don't mean it"

"the feelings of those below, should not be considered by the one who stands on top, even if the one on top understands those feelings"

Captain Shinji, squad5 captain...hundred years ago....

Darn...just when i'm idolizing the espadas...the 12 squad captains have won me over

star bucks

just came from from a talk held by some "corporate social responsibility" society....on Star Bucks....

things i learned...i want to save space so type things here

well a brand is successful and establish if people staying half a globe away from its HQ recognizes it

why people buy such expensive coffee and why at its peak star bucks actually was expanding faster than macs?

its predictability....in a world when change is the only constant, people want something we can hold on to, something which is always there...well starbucks is everywhere, tastes the same everywhere

its emulation...it has attracted stars like britney spears and magic johnson...attracts lots of kids...kids that when they grow up will buy, and be LIFE-LONG customers...since coffee is addictive too...so no point attracting old folks...plus that it takes away the hip factor....

sense of belonging and satisfaction....in a world where people have a lost sense of identity. we can actually be categorised into people who knows how to order starbucks and those who not...ask yourself, ordering starbucks coffee is complicated and complex right...so people feel a sense of achievement and satisfaction in completing it. And that gives us a sense of belonging to this starbucks group and satisfaction...a plus factor: when you get your coffee...the server actually says..."ALvin, here's your cappuccino, enjoy your drink" the personalization is a +

sense of heightening: when you carry a starbucks and walk around...its like you are of some status...just like i-pod and crumbler bag....certainly its not expensive like mercs but its certainly not cheap....and you can do it over and over again....

comfort: certainly all starbucks outlets are comfortable...and good for relaxation and time-wasting...notice how all crouches in outlets are always placed beside the windows? and from outside you look in the people always seems so comfortable and relaxed and you envy them? that's it.

reward: after a week's long hard work or after a bad incident like quarreling with your parents what do you do? SPEND $$$---consumer society
you certainly don't want to go buy a house or a car...so STARBUCKS
and certainly how $$$ u spend on the coffee is directly dictated by how low your mood or how high your mood is

buy space: you want some space...to study or do work...buy a cup of coffee and sit whole day long....the place is middle class, clean, tidy, neat...perfect!

starbucks has sort of declared that its recycling the materials and helping the Earth with the slogan...:"help us help the earth" so people who want to help the Earth but do not wish to do something...they buy starbucks....
for people this is like trying to start repent the sins they have commit towards Earth

they have also failed to expand into middle east and china

and a few others i can't recall
something else i learn: starbucks have a totally different strategy from macs...

starbucks wants its customers to stay as long as possible...so their surroundings is comfy, macs wants it to be high...thus plastic sits and colorful walls....
people are starting to link macs--starbucks...which is destroying them...as it sort of degrades starbucks...(who the hell looks cool eating big-mac and drinking from mac-cafe)...so they are losing their class factor and thus lots of customers...think their profit is down 40% this year as compared to last year.

the prof also mentioned they might have expanded too quickly and too densely...something that is classy usually won't appear everywhere right?
but i have another view on this...in our consumer society...people always want spend their money ...say now this bugger want drink coffee...but the nearest starbucks is like 1 mile away...isn't it better to just grab the nearest alternative around...since there's so many around...coffee bean, gloria jeans, coffee club express....and they are slightly cheaper too. so perhaps starbucks had wanted to counter this by grabbing all locations?

bubble tea is an upcoming craze in the states...people are paying $5 , $6 for a cup
