The cheapest science

You know how many people always say pure Math is the cheapest science as all you need is a clear brain and open mind.
You don't even need pen and paper if you are good enough.

Well I say the cheapest science are those lab-based sciences instead.

Do you agree with me that pure human thought is the most expensive and precious thing in the world?
And in the current research fraternity the more heavy machinery you use the less pure thought you expend.

"Mathematics is unlike other sciences where you can just waste a lot of money on experiments, got no results to prove or disprove your original hypothesis and yet still be able to publish and thus secure your tenure. In mathematics you can't possibly publish a paper with the following abstract: I have tried and failed to prove the xxx theorem and here are the methods that I tried."


I always wonder myself, I truly appreciate the Renaissance and Ancient periods because I like mathematics or do I like Mathematics because I'm a fan of the people belonging to the Renaissance and Ancient periods

Stalin

You know how there exist many people who condemns Stalin for his blah blah blah

And since I just watch a movie on him maybe I shall talk about him

You know at a poll not so long ago a number of (and its a number big enough to shock most people) Russians actually voted that they think Stalin did a great job.

Of course all those Historians slam these poll results and those surveyed.

Now lets look at this from another perspective:

Stalin was (self-elected) to run Russia, to serve Russia and her people.
These historians condemn him for his acts of mass-murder (Mostly non-Russians)

So if we were to base his performance on his original job-scope, what grade does he deserve?

These historians fail to see that if not for the Russian army the Germans might have won WW2 and so what happens then?

These idiots won't get to enjoy hiding in their offices and waste tax-payer's money anymore.

You know you might say "Well Stalin was the leader of one of the two strongest nation on Earth, he had the responsibility to act for the welfare of Earth's citizens!"

Raining

You know how people always say they like rainy days.

I always think that these people don't think deep and declare their preferences at a very superficial level.

What's so likable about rainy days?

The cool and windy weather that comes with it? Well then they should say they like cool and windy days isn't it. Since there are days when it rains and it isn't cool and windy.

What's so unlikable about rainy days

The floor gets wet, which increases your probability of slipping.
Everyone drives slowly, including the SBS drivers.
It becomes freaking warm after the rain as there's no more clouds.
Who likes to dress up, go out and get wet?


So what's so likable about rainy days?

You know people always say "wah the proof of 1 + 1 = 2 is enough to fill a whole blackboard"

I never really knew the proof actually, throughout my four years in NUS.
But recently I started to pick up Set theory on my own since it's known to be the logical foundation of Mathematics and even though I didn't come across the proof in the lectures notes this proof came up suddenly in my head one day when I was walking to the gym.

First we need define cardinality, which basically means size, in the "counting" sense
Next we need define what is 1 and what is 2 and the empty, null set.

1 is the set containing the null set
2 is the set containing the null set and the set containing the null set.

Assume % is the null set
1 = {%}
2 = {%,{%}}

Next we need define the operation "+", which is a binary, commutative, associative and distributive operation
Next we need define "="

so see that 1 + 1 has the same cardinality as 2.

I never understand how can parents be cruel enough to send their children for tuition even before they(the children) start attending primary school.

And there are actually tuition centers claiming to be able to "fix" their children into the GEP.

Don't these idiots understand the meaning of Gifted?

With such parents, even a child like Mozart will be forced to study English Maths Science and drop Music.

On being clean

Someone was telling we have the most corruption free government in the world.

Does he realize that we have one of the best paid government in the world?
And our MM says that if we want the best leaders, we should expect to give the best wage.
So loyalty to country should be scrap off the SAF's core values isn't it?

BTW did not get caught doesn't mean it doesn't exists
in a proof by contradiction no contradiction doesn't mean the statement is correct
in hypothesis testing do no reject does not mean accept.Hypothesis testing is just a screwed up form of proof by contradiction anyway since statisticians can't do much math anyway.

Which reminds me of a story...
Once upon a time a thief escaped from a city where he was wanted into a country town. And he got elected as the town's leader.
